Beginning at the Beginning
Welcome to what is currently a very no frills blog about the Call of Cthulhu RPG game and occasional associated interest. Squarespace is giving me some issues. By that I mean that I don’t totally understand how it works and I’m blaming them for it. It will be prettier in time.
This all started in October of last year at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulhucon, an annual event in Portland, OR that features independent film inspired by Lovecraft’s work and other odd minds, writers of horror and weird fiction, and other similar fun stuff. This year I went by the Chaosium booth and saw that they had the Call of Cthulhu rulebooks available.
This gave me an idea. My partner and I had bought a house earlier that year in a part of Washington that could make going out for entertainment during the winter time difficult. Her brother was living with us at the time as well, so the idea of three people stuck in the house just binge watching Netflix did not appeal to me. I thought learning to be a Keeper and running the game for them would be a fun and new way to pass the time and keep us from going too cabin fevery.
Leia’s brother left before the three of us could start the game, so I started running scenarios for Leia. It was a fun date night thing. In time, another local game geek friend started joining us. Now we have a monthly game night of five to six people that’s pretty much a dinner party with a body/insanity count afterwards.
I started this blog to share my thoughts with anyone interested in them, share Call of Cthulhu-related news I come across, and give the occasional review of CoC game supplements that come out. I hope you enjoy it as such.
