Adventures of the What's the Worst That Can Happen Gang: Session 3

Our investigators are:

  • Doyle Copperfield- Gambler, with his horse with no name

  • Wayne Fontanelle- Gunfighter, with his horse Francine

  • The Kid- Gunfighter, with his horse Buckshot

After leaving Polly with Doctor Collins, the trio went to her house to check on her parents. Getting to the Garrett house they found the windows broken and the shutters blown outwards, like someone (or something) had broken out. They decided it was safer to go in through the back.

Safety was not an issue, but sanity was. The house was wall-to-wall gore. Blood and viscera covered every piece of furniture and surface in the wreckage of the home. Slightly recognizable body parts were seen everywhere. Going up the staircase a bloody clawed handprint was seen on the wall, the height indicating a short, squat creature. The only room spared the carnage was Polly's room, an empty bottle of Doctor Albert's tonic on the dresser.

Getting highly suspicious about Polly herself, the gang left the house to get back to Doctor Collins. As they got to the front steps, however, they saw bloody footprints on them leading down the street. As they were heading back into the center of town anyway, the three followed the tracks.

They led to the Alton residence, all of the lights off. They found the front door slightly ajar and went in, the house in darkness. All was quiet, save a low buzzing coming from behind the door at the end of the hallway. Slowly approaching the door, the buzzing increased. When they opened it, inside were what remained of the Altons, their faces mauled from their heads.

They definitely needed to get back to Doc Collins.

Running back into the center of town, they saw over at the San Rafael Hotel that practically every window has been broken. The Kid went back to the Doc's house while Doyle and Wayne went to investigate the hotel.

Getting inside, they found the place in ruins. Everything was wreckage. A lady timidly came down the stairs and asked if it was over. When the two asked for an explanation, she told them she was in her room when a huge commotion started downstairs. As much as she tried to open her door to investigate, it would not open until a couple of minutes ago.

They thanked her and made to leave when they saw a bloody (but human) handprint on the wall by the window and bloody footprints leading to a shed out in the back of the hotel...

...Meanwhile, the Kid got to the doctor's house only to find...well...nothing at all wrong. Polly was sitting on the couch, sipping on tea. Doctor Collins explained she was still a little shaken but was doing much better after a bath. Polly asked how her parents were, but the Kid remained silent as ran back to Wayne and Doyle.

The Kid joined up with the other two just as they were approaching the shed, filling each other in on what they found out. Once they reached the door to open it, a ragged voice said "If you've come to kill me, just be quick about it." in a British accent. They opened the door to find Farnsworth laying there, looking like he'd been through a meat grinder.

Farnsworth explained to the gang that he'd been sitting behind his desk when he dozed off and was startled awake by a monstrosity, an insane mix of human and bear that spoke with Doctor Albert's voice. It said it was back to fulfill its curse on the town. He finally remembered that Doctor Albert was Reverend Albert, the last preacher at the church who the townsfolk had wrongly accused of causing young Polly's fits, tarring and feathering him and running him out of town. Farnsworth said they had to find him and stop him before he caused more damage to the town.

Not being able to do anything in what was now the dead of night, they got a couple of hours of sleep until dawn came. In the morning's light, they were able to find the tracks of Dr. Albert's wagon, heading out of town. Getting their trusty horses together, the trio rode out to give Dr. Albert his comeuppance...
